Nationaal Groeifonds invests in Charging Energy Hubs

On 30 June 2023, the cabinet awarded the Charging Energy Hubs project a grant from the National Growth Fund. The initiative, led by Heliox, a leading supplier of fast charging solutions, is a partnership of 29 companies and knowledge institutions to develop the project. The aim is to accelerate the electrification of the logistics sector through collaboration, research and innovation.

With zero-emission zones expected to transform urban logistics by 2025, the demand for electric transport is expected to grow exponentially. However, the challenge lies in the limited capacity of the power grid to meet the growing demand for high-performance charging infrastructure. To address this challenge, this project envisages efficient use of smart energy systems to maximise grid efficiency through smart energy solutions.

These decentralised energy systems act as a crucial link between users and providers of electricity. By seamlessly integrating charging infrastructure, renewable and other energy sources, energy storage and local consumers, these charging energy hubs provide flexibility during peak demand or grid balancing issues. This solution alleviates grid congestion while providing a solid business case for investment in charging infrastructure.

Met de financiering van het project en de betrokkenheid van belangrijke spelers en kennisinstellingen hoopt men de elektrificatie van de logistieke sector te versnellen en bij te dragen aan een duurzamere toekomst voor Nederland.

De deelnemende partijen zijn: ACE Mobility, AME, DAMEN, Connectr, DC Systems, DENS, FIER, Fontys, Heijmans, Heliox, Fluidwell, KEMA, Maxem, NKL, Recoy, Renewable Energy Factory (REF), Rocsys, Scholt Energy, SEECE, Shell, Stichting ElaadNL, Sycada, TNO, TSN Groen, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Van Berkel Logistics, Van Kessel, Zero Emissions Services (ZES). De projectcoördinatie wordt ondersteund door Brainport Development en RAI Automotive Industry NL.
